Viagra on Sale Legally in U.K. Within a Month, Observer Says Bloomberg News August 22, 1998, 7:09 p.m. ET London, Aug. 23 (Bloomberg) -- European Union regulators are due to meet in London tomorrow in the first step of a process that could see Pfizer Inc.'s Viagra impotence pill for sale in the U.K. within a month, the Observer newspaper reported, without citing its sources. An advisory panel meeting will forward recommendations to Martin Bangemann, the commissioner in charge of drug licensing, and he could give the green light for sale of the drug about three weeks after he receives the report. New York- based Pfizer has prepared a huge marketing push for the drug, which could notch sales of 100 million pounds ($164 million) in its first year on the market, the paper said. EU residents have been traveling to buy Viagra in pharmacies in Andorra and Switzerland since it became one of the best- selling U.S. drugs following its introduction in April.
