Stockman, I think they are making a profit on the K6. I think other costs eat up the profits and other departments are losing $$, like the flash boys.
As they say:
"lose a little bit on each one and make it up with volume"
This coming season will be a make or break for AMD. The 7-8 month window is a chance to ramp up colume and sell all they make with no strong presence by Intel under $1000.(I discount the new celeron with cache as it will be weak until it is socketed(unless Intel cuts the price to offset the extra motherboard and slot 1 costs))
