Patric --

Like you, I made sassafras tea as a boy growing up in Maryland. I have very fond memories of going out in the fields with my hound dogs, digging up sassafras roots from young trees, then coming back home to strip, clean and boil the roots to make sassafras tea. The taste is very distinctive and hard to describe, although root beer comes close.

I recently read somewhere that the belief that sassafras causes health problems is just a myth. However, I really don't know. Then again, like you, maybe drinking sassafras tea as a kid explains some of my personality quirks! (At least my teenage daughters probably would think so.)

Patric, the funny thing is, I quit drinking 8 years ago, before there was any commercial micro-brewed beer. Heck,I've never even tasted one of the first(if you could call it a micro<g>)
Sam Adams ..DD (was always a Bud and Jack D. man--ouch-the stories I could tell,if only I could remember<lol>)
