Component Suppliers

Stock Bull,

it seems to me that I read where Dell's and Intel's computers are tied together for the purpose of ordering parts

Yes, thank you for jogging my memory. Not only are the component manufacturers notified at the time the order is placed, but also at the time the component is installed. Thus they have an instant inventory status and short-term projection read-out, and can use day to day consumption data to project longer trends and future requirements. Michelle Harris had a very good post on this.

As I said, I doubt seriously that it is easy to set up and do. However, the suppliers derive tremendous advantage, also, as *THEY* do not have to maintain as large an inventory as conventional methods require. This MAY be contributary to falling component prices, though that is purely conjecture on my part.

DELLish, 3.
