I know this is a look at an index and not the components of the index/market. I also seem to be crunching the numbers in a different way than others do

Gersh, I don't know whether it matters how you crunch them as long as it means something to you. It is just like a trading system that someone else develops. Most times it is tough for someone else to use it because of their differing viewpoints.

I call it trying to catch some elses fish. I used to fish a lot of tournaments all over the country.I learned how hard it is for someone to tell me where to catch fish on their lake and then go catch them. You set up on the spot wrong or the pattern changes a little and you don't know how to adapt to it because it wasn't YOUR fish.

I remember one time a friend of mine from Ark (not Clinton) was going to fish a B.A.S.S. tournament on Toledo Bend (MY LAKE). Before the OFF LIMITS started he & I fished some of my BIG FISH areas and did real well. After the second day into the tournament he called me to find out what he was doing wrong. I asked him which group of fish was he fishing early and which group midday. Found out he went to the midday fish (closer and not as hard a boat ride) first and the early fish midday. I didn't think to tell him to fish them in a particular order. I just assumed he would do it during the tournament the same way we did when we fished together. The 3rd day he did it in the order it should happen and moved from 35th place to 3rd. Those were MY FISH and I KNEW THEM. If they didn't act JUST RIGHT, I would recognize it immediately and adapt.

One more fish story. :-) In Febr 1976, we were fishing a tournament on Toledo Bend. During practice a terrible snow & ice storm came into the area. I had found some great tournament fish 25 miles uplake from the headquarters where we launched. Anyway, that time of year and when it is cold most fisherman go fish 20 to 25 structure. My fish were in less than 10'.

Guess what! By not following the crowd, I won the tournament with 13 fish in 3 days that weighed 68 pounds in 10' of water, while the other 249 fisherman was fishing 18' to 25' of water. So I wouldn't worry about doing it differently than the way others do it.

The main thing IMHO is that you understand and have faith in YOUR FISH.
