All TLAB,
CIEN conference call # 800-753-9756 available until 8/28 at 5pm.

As a TLAB long it was interesting to hear the CIEN perspective.

From my notes:
Nettles said it had been a long year with AT&T. An unfortunate and disappointing experience that will benefit other/new customers. AT&T never had a 40-channel piece of equipment to test, they had only seen demos. He clearly indicated that this possibility had been previously discussed at length with TLAB. AT&T revenues for '99 had been substantially factored down prior to this announcement and there was no expectation of AT&T revenue for the balance of '98. He is comfortable with '99 projections without AT&T. No change to the longterm outlook, the business is not fundamentally changed, they are at least 2 generations ahead of any other provider. In the past 6 months they have identified a number of new customers, lots of activity in the international market-moving very fast, more customers "taking smaller bites". CIEN already has three 40-channel systems deployed with "phenomenal" customer satisfaction. He still believes that TLAB/CIEN is a very good strategic fit.

The above is my perspective on the call, take the time to listen and make your own judgements.
