Hubert, it is such a pleasure to turn on my computer and see you here, right at the top of this thread. I have been too often absent lately, tired from suddenly going back to work after such a nice long rest, and busy getting my daughter ready for high school.
As an aside, does everyone know that a permanent for long hair costs almost two hundred dollars these days? My little girl is blooming into a young woman, and wants a more polished look--still big baggy jeans, but nice knit tops and silver jewelry instead of t-shirts and ragged hand-woven friendship bracelets, green Doc Marten boots instead of mere Fila athletic shoes. We shopped until we dropped night after night, and I have been having a lot of fun with her.
Now Hubert, I found a beautiful poetry fragment for you--
And the sunlight clasps the earth, and the moonbeams kiss the sea
Percy Bysshe Shelley
Do you know what poem it is from? I stumbled across the little bit of it in a wedding anniversary card, but I would like to read the whole thing.
Now, about the sad soap opera that is our America at present, I am still pretty stunned. The other day I heard on the news that Monica Lewinsky has testified that she and the president engaged in "unusual" sexual practices. Tonight I heard the suggestion that a cigar was involved! My goodness, I like nice large phallic objects as much as any passionate woman does, but as you pointed out in your post, it sounds like this relationship was anything but gently mutual. I understand that Clinton was so afraid of having another affair revealed that he distanced himself from her, by receiving sexual gratification from her, mostly. Part of the Tripp tapes are reportedly about how hurt Monica was by this skewed physical expression. It also seems that he led her on, because he allegedly inferred that the two of them could be together after he left office, that he and Hillary would not be together then.
At first glance this looks like Clinton simply using Monica. However, because of the number of gifts he gave her, and the fact that their relationship lasted a year and a half, if one looks a little closer it seems more like he is just a bottomless pit of emotional and physical need, so damaged and reckless and self-destructive that he almost cannot help himself (although he must assume full responsibility in a more dignified way than he did last Monday). Not apologizing to Monica and her family (this was in initial drafts of the speech) was apparently an ultimatum from Hillary Clinton, from what Washington reporters have been able to sort out. I think one of the ways she has been able to stay in the marriage is by convincing herself that all the other women were lower-class bimbos, which I think is a very sad stratification to make for a woman who claims to be a feminist. Raising Monica to the level of dignity necessary to apologize to her was something Hillary could not deal with.
I do think reciprocal oral sex is very cool, however. I know what you are talking about when you refer to domination and humiliation created by sexist male pigs, and I think that is really sad. I even seem to remember former Clinton confidante Dick Morris saying that he and Clinton had had a telephone conversation when both of them were receiving oral sex. I think this is one of the primary sexual fantasies of many men. It has nothing at all to do with love or reciprocity, and I love it that you point out that fulfillment is not dependent on the gender of the renderer. I have argued before here that the fact that if our eyes are closed, we could all receive sexual pleasure regardless of whether we were with a man or a woman is a sign that we are all sexual beings first, and sexually identified second. It didn't go over very well, however, especially with men who are homophobic.
There were protest marches in San Francisco and some other Bay Area cities yesterday over the bombs we lobbed. I wish I had known about them, because I would have liked to participate. I find America's international presumptiveness just totally bizarre. If another nation sent a few cruise missiles our way, World War III would begin immediately. Like you, I cannot understand why we think we are in charge of the world. One of our bombs went off in Pakistan, killing five civilians, as I understand. This is a country we were not even aiming at. Today an Italian man was murdered on the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan by people who were expressing their rage at America--I guess Italian is close enough when you are that furious. And of course the news is full of American flags burning.
I wish we would all become Buddhists, or adherents of some nonviolent religion. This is no way to handle anything, and there will simply be even more violence against us. It is our support of the state of Israel which started all the Arab terrorism, and while I support the human rights of all the Jews everywhere, what happened there to the Palestinians is wrong, and made millions of people angry at us. I am for some reason finding myself intrigued by Osama bin Laden. I don't condone violence by anyone, but his face seems peaceful and open, and I think he is sexy in a very gentle way. I am not sure whether this is more closely related to not being able to tell a book by its cover, or whether the things we know about him are more propaganda than objective truth. It is really hard to tell, since there seems to be a lack of real information about the bombings, and what they accomplished.
Well, Hubert, I am feeling neither Good nor Righteous, with my little secret attraction and everything, but am so very pleased that you are here, and I hope you are feeling okay these days. Now my daughter and I have ordered Wag the Dog on pay-per-view, since she has not seen it yet, so I must and go watch it with her. It is so much in the news that I thought she would enjoy seeing what everyone is talking about.
Wishing you wonder!!
