Thanks for the article, I think Wilf "swing and a miss" Corrigan expects DVD to be a big part of LSI's future. In the earnings conference call Wilf, the great pronisticator that he is, suggested that 2 million DVD units will be sold this calender year, and 8 million next year. Of those totals he expected LSI to make the chips for 25% of the units.

I have a neighbor who works for Blockbuster that keeps saying DVD will be huge. She compares the DVD market to CDs and Cassettes. Some people will still keep their VCR, much like cassettes but many people will want DVD players.

My opinion on what would greatly expand the market is to have a DVD disk that is writable. CamCorders are so popular who wants to buy a DVD player if they can't play their home movies. But if you had a writable disk that could store so much more data for a DVD CamCorder, with better quality, then I think it would catch on. And eventually the disk size would shrink just like the new minature VCR tapes. And think of all the product you could sell, new DVD Camcorders and DVD players. And I'm not very technically inclined, but what if you could save information from you computer onto a DVD disc. Goodbye Zip drives, I've got something that is handier and can store more information. But like that article said it better hurry up, people are not very patient.

I am planning to buy a Divx system in September or as soon as I can find stores carrying the rental disks. There is a simple reason. I hate taking movies back and paying late fees especially if I didn't find the time to watch the movie. Divx will be convienient. You may even be able to buy the Divx discs at the supermarket. I also have two VCRs, so replacing one with Divx still leaves me with the ability to record and play tapes from the camera.

Question, If Divx takes off like I believe it will, how will LSI be affected?
