'News From the Front Line Community Preparedness activities are on the rise. Raising awareness can be a lonely and difficult task. The following are stories and reports by people on the "Front Line" who are working to make a difference. The Cassandra Project applauds and commends their courage, caring and dedication. We hope these stories will inspire others in their efforts to help their communities prepare. From: John To: The Front Line Group: Location:Frankfort, Ky Subject: News from the homefront I continue to read and talk to others about the Y2K situation and it's potential problem. I get lots of mixed feelings and thoughts. No doubt we will experience some problems and no one knows for sure just what and how severe they will be. Many are working to resolve the problems, but most likely this is a random act on some and do nothing or little attitude on others. It leaves most of us in a boat with oars, but not knowing where the water is at. I suppose for those of us who aren't sure should expect the worse and hope for the best. Personally I and my family will be prepared, but who knows what prepared really is. Is is a day, week, month(s) or worse. Should it be a little food, water, etc. or lots of everything. Will be have some utilities , or none. If the worse happens no doubt with society as sick as it is today the have nots will try and take what those that do have . Hopefully as the time approaches there will be more information with better facts and a greater knowledge of what everyone can and should do. I sort of feel like a guy leaving on a trip, but doesn't have a road map. From: K To: The Front Line Group: Location:Kauai Subject: The Front Line Post I wrote an article on Y2K for a local paper of which I am part owner. The other partners felt that the information would jeopardize our advertising revenue. I had to re-write it twice until it was so watered down that it said nothing, and still they wanted it removed. The Y2K thing is a human virus as well. At first you go into denial, or just freak out, you want to share it with everyone who will listen. Then the realization comes that it is a much bigger problem. It relates to our purpose here on earth. It is a spiritual problem. I am not any religion, but I believe in some divine order, or source. I pray and meditate often, but don't like what I see in almost all of the oragnized religious packages I have sampled. Be good, act good, breath, forgive yourself and others, and if you have kids try to love them up. So now I am trying to start a community action group that wants to get hung up in biblical prophesies, doom and gloom, or guns and ammo. I am stymied, and want to take my own basic self reliance skills and head for my own hills, or a small tight community who wants to live a better life regardless of the Y2K thing. Still, I feel a sense of responsibility to alerting and educating my community. (a small island of only 40,000 ...Kauai) Any educational tools out there would be appreciated. I have all the hype stuff on the web. What I am looking for is info from communityys that are actualy doing things, ahead of the game. My dream is to bring the island of Kauai into a state of "community self relience". I have owned several small bussinesses, including four stores, and a computer business. I am not coming from a dreamstate. It is near impossible to get large gruops to agree and act in a quick and focused manner. It is possible, and some of you may be doing it now. Let me become your humble student. I will listen to anyone who thinks they know anything. If I leave Kauai, I feel I will be failing myself, even though I know I will make a good spot wherever we land. Please advise friends. K. From: John To: The Front Line Group: Location: Subject: Y2K information I have been aware of the year 2000 problem and some of it's concerns as I work in a bank and have seen some information on the subject, but only after viewing a segment of the 700 club program did I get a much greater understanding of the real problem. I would appreciate advise, source's of information gathering, what I can and should do and so on. I think we are in for a much more serious problem than what most people realize and have been made aware of. I would like information so I can present it to fellow employees at the bank and other people etc. Your help and advise will greatly be appreciated. I am personally going to start preparing for the potential problem and start gathering items for survival should the worse happen. Thanks John/Kentucky ....millennia-bcs.com
