I think it is healthy for people to have strong beliefs about their nation and be concerned for its well being. It is good to be concerned about the value of the presidency. It is not good to have no opinion or ignore important political realities. So I guess we disagree.

I am curious about one of your statements, though. <<Personally, my fear is that we will be taken over economically rather than by a bombing war.>> Do you really think we will be taken over economically? By whom? In what way? Over how long a period? Do you think we should be more worried about that than a nuclear missile from an outlaw nation? Seriously?

I don't think we got to be the richest and most powerful nation in the world by acting like spoiled children. We got it by working harder and smarter, with some help from a favorable geographic location and a system that encourages innovation and self reliance. The media circus we are seeing now is a side effect of a free press, and in any case isn't any worse than lots of other countries. Mostly the media gives the public what it wants to hear, of course with a big dose of left wing bias thrown in. Politicians all over the world suck. They are a necessary evil, because governments run by anybody else are much worse. On the average ours are better than most places, not because they are inherently superior, but because our system gives them less power to cause harm. Also we have elections which will function as a "giant mother" to send them back to their rooms. In many cases the old saying about power corrupting has got it backwards. The real truth is that those who are already corrupt seek power. BTW, I'm a real Ayn Rand fan too. I ran across her works in college, and they changed my life.
