Another short to add to the list: BBY
(anywhere in here is probably pretty close to the top)
-as the economy slows (which it will) this bloated retailer of electronics will get shredded.

Targets for the weeks ahead:

The next move in the DOW should be to around 7200-7300 (perhaps by next Thurs but by 9/4 at the latest if this is the top) Then after a slight rebound (lasting 4 or 5 days) we go lower to around 6300-6500 before a significant rebound lasting around 3 weeks or so before we slide again in Oct down to around DOW 4000. From there... things get hazy (G)

That's my interp from what I am hearing.

Thean,
RE: New computer
If you can possibly swing the green I recommend you go for a PC with a 350 MHz P2. The 350MHz and 400MHz computers use a 100MHz system bus which is substantially faster and better (longer lasting) than the 66MHz system bus on all lesser varieties. You can get a 350MHz P2 without monitor from Gateway (G6-350HE, std price is closer to $2K but you can custom configure it to strip out the monitor, DVD, fancy speakers, and desktop case) for $1500.
If you have to stay under that you might want to check out CNET's Buyer's guide to cheap PC's @
computers.com
There's a lot of other useful info @ computers.com too.
Happy shopping....Alski
P.S. Be careful about the modem. In the not too distant future the V.90 standard will be pervasive, but in the mean time you really need to match your ISP's either 56Kflex or X2 protocol.

Re: New Computer
If you can wait until year end. You can get a better deal because of inventory clean up. Try to avoid WDC hard drives for now. Quite a few of them recently failed at my work.

I hope it helps
