The U.S. would have had to supply Iran with spare parts and weaponry regardless of the hostage situation. China was also supplying Iran. The Soviets were supplying Iraq. In the end, many were supplying both sides to prevent either Iran or Iraq from gaining the upper hand. If either side won, there would've been a potential need for a large permanent U.S. presence in the area, one that would be difficult with the Arab politics.

The U.S. also was assisting the Contras in Nicaraugua against the Sandanistas who were training insurgents that were destabilizing regimes in Central America.

What side were the Democrat Congress on? They definitely didn't contribute to the fall of the Soviets. On the domestic side, many of the Democrat programs are continually having to be rescued from bankruptcy or costs are running rampant, such as Social Security, Medicare, Education, Welfare, Public Housing, etc. The government is the only institution where if you screw up, you can get more money.

And now what did Clinton's lies accomplish, what grand purpose did they have? To cover up sordid liasons with a trainee in the office. I have more problems with the whoppers he's told in pursuit of nationalized health care, HMO reform, and the Tobacco tax schemes. He likes to use the Oprah format to spread lies and horror stories.
