Sepster, No one had any problem with the Serial/Parallel/USB/IDE going onto the motherboard as they had reached a stable end point and people were not likely to want to turn them off and use cards. With sound the same thing has happened and built in sound is OK, with video?? I think most standard business apps can tolerate it. Tne gamesters will hate it. Soft Modem? I am leery of softmodems as the first one(IBM wave) were dogs. Perhaps they can make them better now.
3COM will hate that, but what can they do about it? Drop the price of card based modems is all. What % of systems end up with modems? How much will Intel charge for them? Will they be optional? in that you must buy a SW package to run them but the parts are on all boards, or will there be a bifurcation?
For the low low end high integration is needed, others are working on one chip solutions, so Intel has to as well. Ultimately we will buy a fat linecord with a USB port?
