jhg, Sorry! SCM = Supply Chain Management, this is a concept where the Supply Chain is managed and optimized, example dont order the parts from the suppliers until the order is booked, then rely on JIT to get the goods to Dell in a 2-hr window. I2 = a software company (ITWO) that sells software to implement the SCM concept which Dell bought a few years ago that has allowed for many of the economies Dell is now realizing. Oracle ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) Software, competes with Sap and Peoplesoft, software that automates the mfg process, most companies install an ERP package (Cisco uses the Oracle product) and then an SCM package (I2 or Manugistics) on TOP of the ERP. Dell actually isnt using one of the big ERPs they have a smaller package called Chess (renamed to Glovia). Michelle
