West Bengal's Chinese now eligible for Indian citizenship reports BBC.

Wonder why it took this damn long for the idiotic government to act, after all they have been living there for generations.

Extract:

"Officials in the Indian state of West Bengal say Calcutta's ethnic Chinese population will now be eligible for Indian citizenship.

The West Bengal Home Department says it has received clearance to allow naturalisation applications from Calcutta's estimated two-hundred thousand ethnic Chinese, many of whom have lived in the city for decades.

It all hinges on how much of the money is "new" money and how much has come from all those "prisoners" trapped in FCNR(b) accounts!

The initial expectation was that only 10-15% of the money would be "old" money; the rest would be "fresh" funds. That's what they said.

If, as I expect, the SBI keeps on hemming and hawing about these numbers forever, then the ratings deserve to be where they are.

Dipy.
