This morning's news had a piece on a company in Japan that has, through breeding and genetic engineering created -- a strain of rice, some grasses eaten locally, and another product I didn't catch the name of -- plants that are watered with 10% ocean water. The piece did show normal plants that were given ocean water, all were dead, but the engineered ones were thriving and yielding grains/seeds. What was not explained was what happens to the soil over time as it is watered with salt water.
