Good news!

I did not attend the EV1 Club meeting over the weekend but an acquaintance of mine, did. Here are a few of the items that emerged,

The current drivers of the EV1 will be offered the NiMH batteries, first. Probably in the October- November time frame.

The current EV1s (gen 1) will be traded in for (EV1 gen 2) vehicles) for those who want the NiMH upgrades. New leases would begin with no penalty for the early termination of the first leases.

Unofficialy it was suggested that the cost for the new leases with NiMH would be about 25% more than the first(gen1) leases, bringing the cost of the lease to about $500 per month (including chargers)In Calif. . Remember that a savings of between 60 and 80 dollars a month in fuel costs benefit the
EV1 lessees.(much more when gas prices rise)

Additionaly, the first generation EV1s (lead acids) will be re-leased with full bumper to bumper warranties for those who can make due with the lower range. The EV1s will be supported by GM and Saturn with both service and parts for the next fifteen years.

I hope the information I've posted is accurate but it's been difficult to get reliable information from GM and Saturn in the past.
