BillG, Great news release to show that CUBE is active in the set-top market. I found especially encouraging the links to the Pegasus project......... According to Tom Haga, president of Pioneer New Media Technologies, this worldwide alliance represents a continuation of the development work the company has been doing for Time Warner Cable's "Pegasus Project."........."The agreement between Pioneer, CANAL+, C-Cube and DiviCom represents a significant step forward for OpenCable and its goal to achieve competitive end-to-end system solutions," said Jim Chiddix, senior vice president and CTO of Time Warner Cable. . YES! This is a first outside mention that suggests CUBE silicon may be inside a Pegasus box! JohnR can you tell how significant this may be? Now that SFA has expanded it's plant in Mexico they will plan on cranking out their own Pegasus set-tops, whose silicon will SFA use? A lot to think about with this release

C-Cube will supply Pioneer with an evaluation board that includes an integrated MPEG-2 audio/video decoder; a high-performance graphics co-processor and a host-CPU for the development of an OpenCable-compliant set-top box. Whose graphics co-processor, whose CPU, who makes the board? Any help out there?

Spend all the sunny days on the beach, but when it rains watch Canal Satellite via intelsat; FredE will be able to watch formula 1 while on the beach. intelsat.int INTELSAT announced today that BT Broadcast Services France is operating the first French speaking DTH service for the Caribbean on the INTELSAT 801 satellite at 328.5øE. The 72 MHz Ku-band spot beam being used covers Martinique and Guadeloupe, with an approximate beam peak e.i.r.p. of 52 dBW over the two key target islands, and is the first digital DTH service dedicated to French language programming in this area of the world. In the fringe areas, the beam also reaches Miami to the north and Cayenne (French Guiana) to the south. Tom Eaton, INTELSAT's Director Sales and Marketing, stated, "We are pleased that we have the coverage, capacity and power on our 801 satellite to provide our customers with the services they need to meet this new market in the Caribbean. This latest service from France to the Caribbean, via BT Broadcast Services France for video program distribution services, is testament to our expanding video offerings and our commitment to serving the needs of our partners and customers throughout the world." BT Broadcast Services France is broadcasting this digital bouquet, called Canal Satellite Antilles, from the new BT teleport in Paris-Boulogne. At the Canal Satellite's digital broadcast center, programs are multiplexed in MPEG-2/DVB format and encrypted using Mediaguard's access control system. The programs are then transmitted via a digital link to the Paris-Boulogne teleport where the signal is uplinked to the INTELSAT 801 satellite. Mr. Philippe Vuillaume, Manager of BT Broadcast Services France, added "The market for DTH in the Caribbean is growing very rapidly, as this new service indicates. The INTELSAT, 801 satellite is a very competitive offering, allowing customers the advantage of using antennas as small as 60 cm. Through the successful collaboration with INTELSAT, we were able to customize coverage to meet the customer's very specific requirements." Programming on Canal Satellite Antilles comprises 13 television channels and one radio channel transmitted within a 45 Mbit/s carrier. The channels are: Eurosport, CineCinemas, Canal J, Planete, Euronews, MCM International, France Courses (racing), 13eme Rue (entertainment), Fox Kids, Voyage (travel), RFO, Nostalgie and XXL, and France Info (radio). Intelsat wants it's own data broacasting soluions; intelsat.int INTELSAT today announced that Teleglobe, Telecom Egypt, Telkom South Africa, Cyprus Telecommunications Authority and EMBRATEL of Brazil will be the initial participants in pre-commercial testing of INTELSAT's Multicast Internet Caching and Replication System.
