To help me with sector analysis, I have built a .lst file which contains most of the important !** symbols for the indexes. It came out fairly nice, utilizing the column and sort capabilities in the new list "spreadsheet" format. Col A is, of course, the symbol. Col B is major sector. Col C is sub-sector. Col D is sub-sub-sector. And col E is the QP chart "Description". Using this list file, one can sort on B, then C, then D, and have then be able to get right to sector and sub-sector index charts to help with trading decisions on either stocks or mutual funds. Also, since many of the !** indexes are market oriented rather than sector oriented, one can go directly to a group of market oriented indexes and flip through them to get a feel for the direction and/or sentiment for the market. Since I had to do this mainly via "grunt" work, I can't provide a programming technique on building the file. However, if any of you are interested in it, I'll be happy to provide the .lst file to you. I don't have access to a web site where I can store it, so I'd have to e-mail it to you. Otherwise, if there's enough interest, perhaps one of those on the thread who has a web site may be generous enough to make it available for downloading.
