CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 26, 1998--Avalon Group, Inc. today announced that it has signed an agreement with a U.S. manufacturer to license its proprietary "body fat analysis" technology. The technology uses bioimpedance to measure an individual's body fat by sending a mild electrical current through the body and using a series of algorithms to calculate the percentage of body fat present. This agreement provides Avalon with an exclusive, worldwide license (for specific applications) from a manufacturer that has developed a refinement on bioimpedance using proprietary Ohms Modulation Logic (OML) technology. This OML technology avoids problems common in other bioimpedance technologies, such as variations due to temperature or body water changes, or the need to remove shoes to use the device. The manufacturer of the technology claim an accuracy to within 2.5% of underwater weighing, which is a widely-recognized benchmark for body composition. This OML bioimpedance technology is a more convenient method and is ideal for in-the-field analysis. Ron Green, president & CEO of Avalon Group, Inc. added, "The importance of monitoring body composition and not simply body weight has always been widely acknowledged by healthcare professionals. However, the issue has never been widely recognized by the public because of the difficulties in obtaining an accurate body fat measurement without involving trained, qualified professionals and the associated costs. Avalon plans to offer a body fat analysis solution using the technology featured in this announcement." Avalon Group, Inc.
