GV....The Speedmaster 74-DI will go on sale mid-year 1999. However, my understanding is that deliveries will not be made until sometime in 2000 (Possibly around DRUPA). The 74 Karat press goes on sale at IPEX next month with full commercial delivery of the press scheduled for the first quarter 1999. This equals a full year head start. I like Scott, believe that use of Heidelberg DI technology on press, will result in royalty to Presstek from the Speeemaster offering, as well as exclusive Presstek plate usage for the DI part of the Speedmaster plate imaging. I also expect that the only real plate product that will provide clear imaging results with no debri etc. on the 74 Karat press, will be the exclusive non-process plates from Presstek.....

From what I can learn, Presstek's plate is one of a kind. The Pearlgold was originally developed from research that began years ago at a cost of millions and after testing many types and combinations of material. The other manufactures now attempting to manufacture non-process plates (NP) will not and have not been able to apply the time and cost into finding a solution in their development of a brand new NP product. Instead, they have been attempting to transform or perfect an existing plate by turning it into NP. This has been highly unsuccessful by all that have tried to-date. (Example; Dupont ZP plate abandoned.) In fact, even the Horsell plate, which is the only other NP plate now in existence, leaves residue and debri. So far it has been determined that the Pearlgold offering is highly superior and leaves no debri. That being the case, and the fact that now, thermal platesetters-imagers are the predominent direction the industry manufacturer has moved toward....Presstek has placed it'self very nicely in the position to absorb and meet the press user demand with the NP plate of chose. Presstek will soon have the manufacturing system/capability to manufacture in mass quantity and quality.
