Along the way, strategic upgrades will be made to allow for an equipment sector recovery and the eventual expansion of this industry. There are enough similarities in the processes to make this possible but there are enough differences to make it necessary to re-allocate equipment and to purchase other equipment to relieve certain capacity limiting restrictions.

Under the scenario you outline, I would assume the best positioned semi-equip companies would be those more involved in new design rather than increased production. I would think that would favor DUV-related companies and perhaps copper-process more than companies working on 300mm implementation. I would also think that further continuation of DRAM consolidation deals like Micron/Texas Instruments would make sense as companies close down their DRAM operations rather than simply slim them.
