Alex,

No contention today, I swear. Just a funny story about an M60.

Long ago I worked in the movie industry. One forgettable epic was a weak Italian Vietnam movie on which I was 2nd Assistant Director (the guy who shouts a lot). One of the extras was the 17 year old son of an Italian diplomat. The diplomat had opened some doors for the company, so the kid was pretty much untouchable. It went to his head in a big way, and about the last thing a 2nd AD needs on a set is a swell-header extra. He demanded the right to carry the M60, which was immediately ceded to him for the reasons which you have stated. He loved that gun. When he picked it up he became Rambo, and the sole sorrow of his life was that he didn't get to shoot it more often.

One day the scene called for him to run back to the helicopter and spray the woods with gunfire while his comrades climbed onto the helicopter. He was then to climb onto the helicopter. He ran and sprayed with sufficient enthusiasm that if he hadn't been firing blanks he'd have mowed down half his squad. When his turn to climb aboard came, he realized that he would have to hand the gun up to someone else. This he did, reluctantly, and the moment he was ensconced in the chopper he reached out and grabbed the gun. By the barrel. With his bare hand.

Eyewitnessess said it smoked like a chimney, and I've no cause to doubt it.

Not very funny, I suppose, but the kid was a spoiled prick, and I laughed my ass off.
