Alex, first of all you do not explain how the Second Amendment is "perverted" by the anti-gun lobby. Since there have been absolutely no court decisions upholding the NRA view of what the amendment means in terms of whether the founding fathers wanted a ready militia, or a bunch of civilians armed to the teeth during their everyday lives, I am unclear how you can allege that it is the anti-gun lobby which has perverted the amendment's meaning. I think it is the NRA which did that!

Our per capita rate of incarcerated citizens is already astronomical in comparison to that of other free, "civilized" countries. How can you argue that putting even more people in prison would build a decent society? I think decent societies start out by being extremely nonviolent, and teaching their children values that have absolutely nothing to do with guns. That sure would not be America!!!

I have never read anything about anyone stopping a crime by being armed, although I am sure it occurs occasionally. I have read the statistics, which come from police departments and have been quoted here before, that there is a much greater likelihood of your gun being used against you in a crime, than being used to prevent the crime from occurring.
