The M is Matsushita, Panasonic's parent as a potential partner to go after TCI . I guess the GI announcement kills that deal :-(

Pioneer Electronics, C- Cube , Canal Plus To Develop Cable-TV System 08/24/98 Dow Jones Online News (Copyright (c) 1998, Dow Jones & Company, Inc.) LONG BEACH, Calif. -(Dow Jones)- Pioneer Electronic Corp. said Monday it formed an alliance with France's pay-television giant Canal Plus S.A. and semiconductor firm C- Cube Microsystems Inc. to produce a digital system for the cable-television industry. The system will allow digital video and interactive television applications such as an interactive program guide, Internet browsing, video-on-demand, network games, home banking, on-line shopping, and data and digital download capabilities, the companies said.
