Thanks for that article, allow me to highlight the best part I liked
from the article and here it goes.

Compaq, HP and IBM PC Co. pointed to eroding profit margins and an overall purchasing slowdown in Asian markets as causes for their poor performances this past quarter.

But while they were busy explaining their results, Dell's profit margins were up by five-tenths of a point and revenues for the Asian region had grown 34 percent.

"Compaq was hopping around on one leg, getting rid of older inventory, while Dell was selling what people wanted," said Mark Specker, an analyst at SoundView Financial Group Inc., in San Francisco. "There's no substitute for selling what people want."
