<<NEW YORK, Aug 24 (Reuters) - The Dow firmed in afternoon trade Monday as respected Goldman Sachs strategist Abby Joseph Cohen said
U.S. stocks were undervalued.

At 1417 EDT/1817 GMT, the Dow was up 24 points at 8558. The tech-heavy Nasdaq lost three points to 1795 and the S&P500 was up seven to 1088.

''U.S. stocks are 5-8 percent undervalued,'' Cohen said in research note. She reiterated her 1998 year-end targets for the Dow at 9300 and for the S&P500 at 1150. [ gee, (9,300 - 8,700)/8,700 = 6.8%, she can do arithmetics! ]

Cohen said Russia, Brazil and Venezuela are the three main areas of concern for global investors but they account for less than four percent of U.S. exports and ''there is little banking exposure''.>>
if one neglects Mexico, Canada, Japan, Korea et al. - just name two or three countries at a time - that way you always get just few %% , never mention all of them in one "report"

>> It is true that a lot of prominent bears have been wrong on the market for a long time.<<

Yeah, they've been wheeling out Wien alot lately. He is one of those disgraced bears in my book. 2 summers ago (or was it one <g>) he was on cover of Barrons calling for 1000 point drop and assorted other nonsense. He had long rates going to the high 7's. He should go back in hiding. He was wrong then and he won't live long enough to be right, period.
