Playback Time Extended In DVD Audio Specs
- -August 24, 1998
By Joseph Palenchar

The DVD Forum's Working Group-Four (WG-4) added Meridian's lossless-compression technology to the proposed DVD Audio specs to meet the music industry's demands for increased playback time and improved sound quality.

The WG-4 has targeted September for the 1.0 version of its DVD Audio spec, said WG-4 chairman Bike Suzuki of JVC. Before DVD audio players come to market, however, the DVD Forum must select a digital interface between audio equipment and DVD Audio players as well as a digital copyright-protection technology, he said.
