Bob, it isn't so much once I'm down there, it is the process by which I get there and back. I'm not afraid of flying, but I will admit to a certain amount of apprehension when flying through turbulence. On the water, or land, I have a fair level(if not over confident level) of survival guts. I can swim, float, walk, and grab on to big trees. But in the air, if that plane nose dives, I don't have a net to catch me. That's all.

That being said, and barring any unusual circumstances, I will be there for the weekend. I appreciate what you are doing for us, and realize this is on your behalf, and not necessarily CKFR's that we get this opportunity.

Best Regards, August.

Dear Bob:

You will always have our deepest and sincerest respect and appreciation for your extraordinary generosity and visionary thinking. You have given all of us an enormously valuable gift.

Certainly we had a wonderful time in Florida. We enjoyed your hospitality immensely. You, Rhonda, Liz, Benny, Julie, the captains, Cecil and everyone made this trip a memory for a lifetime. To do this for so many people that you had never even met in person is uncommonly gracious. We could not adequately express our thanks for your gift of this experience.

Spending all of this enjoyable time studying and testing Checkfree and its management will be immensely valuable to us. We were able to address every concern and learn about the magnitude of the opportunities. We will always remember this trip and as we go forward with Checkfree, we will do our part to keep this thread sharp and valuable. Most of us can only hope to repay you by doing the field work and adding insight to the news. I am sure that I speak for the whole thread when I promise our commitment to do just that. We appreciate your gift more than we can express. Thank you.

Dear Mr. Gintel,

I too want to express my sincere appreciation for a fabulous weekend at the Ocean Reef Club. There aren't very many people that would invite 25 strangers into their home and treat them with the kind of hospitality and generosity we experienced this weekend. You, sir, are a gentleman in a class of your own. Please extend the gratitude of my wife and I to Rhonda and Marty as well. They too are exceptional people.

Not only was this weekend great fun, but it was a huge education for me as well. Meeting Peter Kight and Alan Schullman (sp?) was truly a privelege. Being surrounded by many of the great minds on this CKFR thread was an inspiration.

For those of you who weren't able to make the trip, you should know that there was a great deal of discussion that took place outside of the conference call. Several of us were able to spend one-on-one time with Pete, Alan, and Sharon Osberg. I'll let some of the other more sophisticated attendees give their perspectives, but suffice to say, I came away very impressed with the company's prospects. So much so that I upped my CKFR position by 33% today at 8 7/8.

The consensus seems to be that this stock may flounder for another quarter or two at worst, but there's a good chance that we beat some estimates around that time, and Wall Street's short-term memory will begin to fade. CKFR stockholders are paying a pretty heavy price right now for some questionable management statements, but in a year or so it won't matter anymore.

Best of luck everyone.

Robert --

How do you say thanks to a guy who manages to fend off hurricanes and arrange perfect weather for his guests while appearing as though he hadn't moved a finger to accomplish it all?

It really was a great week-end and it's a tribute to CheckFree that they've earned the quality following they have.

Robert, you pulled it all together, and I along with all your guests are in your debt.

I'm typing my notes as quickly as I can and will post Part I at the end.

Thanks for a fantastic three days.

Pat Mudge

Part I --- "Random Notes"

* Industry is changing daily. Everybody will do bill presentment --- it will give competitive edge.

* [Brian from GTE Credit] Dial-up would grow faster if we marketed it. Right now it's only word of mouth. Haven't gone to Web yet. 1Q '99 is target. CheckFree side is ready to go. There's lots of interest; we're holding it down intentionally. Competition for web interface software solutions.

* Interoperability --- CHKF is at table for rules. Some don't have package for set-up. CheckFree has an end-to-end solution.

* Getting member banks up first: Fleet, BancOne, Michigan, Nations, NorWest, Wells Fargo. Wells is one of the most aggressive e-billers. They're number one for on-line banking. Active customers number 500K. Nations' PFM-based to web based, not up and running.

* Getting presenters up and running is a challenge. Wells is pushing. Only in pilots now.

* Banks know they have to have e-banking/e-billing. Competition will come from software technology companies (like MSFT), from Internet portals (like AOL), and from non-bank financial institutions (like E-trade). All have national reach.

* All competitors want to be the single location for all electronic financial transactions: banking, billing, payments. CKFR is behind them doing end-to-end tracking, audit, and support.

* AT&T will announce electronic bill-pay and any bank that isn't listed will lose customers. Mellon knows this and is currently talking to co. AT&T will set customer expectations 9/98.

* CKFR has new head of operations from BankOne.

* CKFR hosting analyst conference Sept. 3 in Atlanta. Over 40 signed up to attend.
