A news release today...SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 25, 1998--Identix Inc.
(ASE:IDX.A), a leading provider worldwide of live-scan and biometric
verification systems, Tuesday announced that the New York Police
Department ordered an additional 14 Identix TouchPrint 600(TM)
(TP-600) workstations.
The TP-600 workstations are being installed at NYPD precincts by
Tacoma, Wash.-based Sagem Morpho Inc. (Morpho), a subsidiary of
Paris-based SAGEM SA. Previously, the Department had installed TP-600
units at each of its 73 precincts. The TP-600 workstations were
shipped by Identix in the fourth quarter of fiscal 1998 ended June 30,
1998.
The TP-600 workstations will interface with the City's Morpho
AFIS and will be able to capture with maximum accuracy and speed both
a suspect's full fingerprints, as well as whatever ancillary
information on prior arrests and other data are available. The
information is then to be transmitted electronically both to NYPD
headquarters at One Police Plaza and to the New York State Police in
Albany, or singly to one or the other, depending on the gravity of the
offense or application purpose. An estimated 1,500 individuals are
processed daily.
According to Sagem Morpho Senior Vice President of Business
Development Tim Nitzsche-Ruggles, the Morpho and Identix workstation
meet the strict New York City requirements for overall excellence in
performance and image quality. "In 1996, New York City purchased a
Morpho AFIS to interface with the state's Morpho AFIS, contracted for
in 1988," Nitzsche-Ruggles said. "This order is a further endorsement
by one of the nation's largest police departments of our ability to
provide the latest in law enforcement products."
Identix Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Randall
C. Fowler commented, "The NYPD has one of the largest and most
sophisticated identification/verification systems to date in a single
urban police department. Live-scan fingerprinting has cut in half the
time needed by the NYPD to obtain suspects' criminal records from the
state, while also substantially reducing the rejection rate. This
provides the department significant time and cost savings, and enables
officers to return more quickly to the streets," he said.
Sagem Morpho Inc. is a high technology imaging corporation
specializing in computerized fingerprint matching systems. The
company is a wholly owned subsidiary of European technology giant
SAGEM SA of Paris, France. SAGEM SA and Sagem Morpho Inc. are world
leaders in automated fingerprint identification systems (AFIS). The
Morpho AFIS family of products is used in a variety of security
applications worldwide, including law enforcement, document security
and national defense.
Identix is a leader in designing, developing, manufacturing and
marketing products for the capture and/or comparison of fingerprints
for security, anti-fraud, law enforcement and other applications.
