An opposing viewpoint on oil: I disagree with your prediction that oil will not jump until 2000. I think we will see a huge increase in consumption of oil and gas this winter. Last year's fairly mild winter decreased demand in almost all aspects of home heating consumption. I believe we are in for "a fairly nasty and cold winter" in North America and other parts of the world. It appears as though the "El Nino" effect is nearly gone, and scientists are noticing a "La Nina" weather system forming (opposite of the warm El Nino).

Of course, a war some place in the world will help the price of oil also.

Incidentally, if someone is into commodities, and if the "La Nina" effect strengthens, the 1999 crop will be terrible.
