You know, people used to pay for Netscape software, till Microsoft
set the price of browsers to 0.


LOL. Microsoft is charging for its browser because Windows aint free.

The nice thing about "open source", though, is that you can
actually fix things, or have your staff fix things, or hire somebody
to fix things.


What staff? The latest bull run in the markets can be mostly
attributed to downsizing. Companies don't want expensive UNIX guru's
running around looking for something to do. The success of NT and
iMac are indicators that people want less hassle. Now the Java camp
is trying to up the ante in the less hassle department.

Can you imagine Dan the hypothetical financial analyst breaking out
the debugger?
