Greg, The prime manipulators of MU are the management. They put out half-truths and throw a favorable spin on everything. Then come the analysts. Whittington from Soundview went bonkers on the stock a few years back and is no longer with us. He was predicting $17 a share in earnings for 1997. -g- Then Kurlak of Merrill invented some total fantasies in the Fall of 1996, and people bought into them. He has since wised up, but I was amazed that he could make the type of statements he made with nobody in the media calling him on it. And, now, Niles from Robertson Stephens is carrying the shield for the co. He is the one who congratulates them on great quarters when they lose money. -g-

The media has also been an enabler of the MU scam, especially CNBS. A week has not gone by where the reporters, not the guests, have not commented about "how cheap" MU is.

Simplot is, of course, a manipulator. His previous CEO, Parkinson, was fired for calling him on the some of the stories he was leaking to the press.

And then there are the folks who really want to believe. Every uptick on the stock is hailed as a sign that the worst is over. Actually, the best is over for the co. and my guess is the stock has to eventually reflect that. And it has fallen from $95, so it is not like it is not happening. It is just happening slower than I expected. The same thing happened in the previous two downcycles. The stock's resilience in the face of reality is nothing short of amazing.
