Actually, over the past five years, Intel and IBM are 'birds of a feather', with IBM (that great dog of a company everyone likes to slam) slightly outperforming Intel. Hey, maybe Gerstner is what Intel really needs, he could apply the necessary techniques to make Wall Street love a slow grower, ala IBM... <gggg>

MY GAWD, WHAT HAVE THEY DONE?
I got the folowing benchmarks off the previously posted Toms hardware page. These benchmarks are more in line with what some of us expected for the Mendocino.
Celeron A Pentium II
400/100 450/100 400/100 450/100
Business Winstone 98 30.8 31.7 30.8 31.4

Quake 2 66 70 66 69

StudioMax 3D 38.7 43.9 38.3 42.9

Now it becomes obvious why Intel downplayed the Mendocino benchmarks on their web page. The Celeron A is the equal and slighter faster than the Pentium II when overclocked to over 400Mhz.
For any buyer with half a brain...the PENTIUM II is FINISHED.
All this doesn't bode well for Intel's margins and makes the future of Intels earnings much more cloudy.

Jim
