Everyone from company execs to traders to Wall Street analysts screaming that company's fundamentals unchanged and that sell-off has been orchestrated by short-sellers who have flooded the market with negative rumors. (SOC) 8 13/16: Issue trading 3/4 higher on Instinet on news home appliances company will spare four of eight factories previously scheduled to be closed. Though stock bid higher based on news company has developed some sort of plan, very few positives in release. For example, SOC also announcing that it will no longer pay its dividend. In addition, company predicts that it will take over a yr to work off excess inventory. 08:48 ET STERIS Corp (STRL) 53 3/4: Shares of surgical products maker will replace Viking Office Products in the S&P MidCap 400 Index after the close of trading on Wednesday. Coincidentally, STRL shares also split 2-for-1 today. Based on post-split bid ($27.50), stock indicated 1 3/4 higher. Gardner Denver Inc (GDI) will take STRL's place in the S&P SmallCap 600. 08:44 ET Circon Corp (CCON) 14 1/8: Wall Street Journal reporting that surgical products maker may be seeking a "white knight" to rescue company from U.S. Surgical's hostile bid. According to publication, company likely will announce that it seeks proposals ranging from significant distribution alliances to a merger or outright sale of the company. Tyco International's chairman/CEO confirmed that his company is evaluating CCON as a possible takeover candidate. 08:36 ET Vivus Inc. (VVUS) 4 3/4: Developer of therapeutic systems for the treatment of erectile dysfunction has hired CS First Boston to evaluate strategic alternatives including sales and marketing collaborations or partnerships, including the sales of the company. Stock indicated 1/4 higher. 08:35 ET Market Indication: As Maria B. would beam, "We're in rally mode." Current level of S&P futures indicate Dow will burst out the blocks with a 70 to 75 pt pop...
