Mr. Peter Mordaunt reports
Preliminary metallurgical test work on composite samples from drill holes at Alamo Dorado have yielded good recoveries for both silver and gold.
As follow-up to the positive reverse circulation drilling that was completed this past summer (Stockwatch Aug. 25, 1998) four drill hole intercepts were composited, split and then bottle roll tested. This preliminary metallurgical work was done to confirm that silver and gold are not metallurgically complex and can easily be dissolved into solution for processing (this has implications for heap leaching).
The initial drill hole analysis was completed by Bondar Clegg of Vancouver and as follow-up for this metallurgical test work composite samples from drill holes were also quantified by Bondar Clegg. These samples were then shipped to SGS X-RAL Laboratories (Toronto based laboratory) for bottle roll test work. At SGS X-RAL the four composite drill hole samples that included previously announced intersections from drill holes AD-01, AD-02, AD-08 and AD-10 were further split into three separate samples for bottle roll testing. In total, 12 tests were performed. Each bottle roll test was performed on a one kilogram sample which was leached for 24 hours at room temperature in a 1 per cent cyanide solution. The recovery of gold and silver for each test is presented on the accompanying page.
This test work has shown and confirms that recoveries for gold and silver are good and give the company a high level of confidence to continue work at Alamo Dorado. Extraction of both precious metals indeed confirms the exploration target.
Corner Bay is now finalizing plans for another phase of drilling to start in four to six weeks. It is anticipated that the company will drill another 10 to 12 holes. Five of the planned holes will focus on drilling the downdip extension (roughly 120 metres deep) of the known 500 metre strike length. Additional drilling will occur to the north and south of the known area to enhance the strike length of the known gold and silver zone. The Alamo Dorado hosts a zone of continuous gold and silver mineralization that outcrops near the top of a prominent ridge that rises 150 metres above the valley floor. In total 10 holes have been drilled to date that have all intersected gold and silver over appreciable widths. The 10 holes averaged 100 grams silver per tonnes and 0.31 grams gold per tonne over 70.1 metres.
