Hmmmm. I am guessing, I suppose by the way he describes this kind of flow, the pipe is laying horizonally and was flowing on surface(years ago). When the flow expands across surface the flow "caps" the porphry, hence the term "breccia cap" The true geological term maybe "pipe" but I have never heard it described as a pipe, but as a cap!
