Thanks Cricket and Long on Dell.

So if you buy between Aug 31 and Sept 4, the seller gets the extra shares. You are saying that the broker will process differently by having the new shares credited to the buyer.

OK, the above will happen if the shares are held in street name. But if the seller originally took delivery of the shares, would not Dell transfer agent sent the new shares to the sellers address (he is stockholder of record) ? If he is out of the country and not sending the new the shares to the broker would not the buyer be ... upset?

Anybody who has been or is in the brokerage business might shed some light?
