<<for russia, i bet on lebed. he may not be a yes man for clinton, but he would be a good leader for russia. long term, i think that is in the interest of the US.>>

Trey,

Be careful of what you wish for you might get it. I'm betting on Lebed also, but I'm not at sanguine about the prospects. Sure a strong man like Lebed will create some stability on a short term basis and the Russian Mafia would be severely hampered, but there would be a terrible price to pay. Lest you forget, both Hitler and Mussolini were hailed as nationalist saviors. Both created the illusion of stability and better economic times in Germany and Italy. You know the outcome. Russia is a powder keg. It's Yugoslavia with nukes. Add Lebed to the mix, and the results can be very explosive. Do you know how to spell KGB? And you could say goodbye to even the appearance of democracy in Russia. As for his response to America and the remainder of the West, whose money built many a mansion on the Caspian Sea over the last 5 years, what's the Russian equivalent of "Go f*** yourselves."? JMHO
