Applied Materials (AMAT) 31 13/32 +23/32: leading manufacturer of semiconductor wafer fabrication equipment to reduce its work force by 2,000 positions due to downturn in the semiconductor sector; expects job reduction to prompt a fiscal Q4 charge, leading to a loss; according to First Call, AMAT was projected to earn $0.03 a share in Q4, vs year-ago net of $0.49 a share.....
