Not particularly good news. With these cut backs, it is clear that the Company does not expect any improvement in the business environment for quite some time; hence the layoffs. It is very expensive to recruit and get new employees up to speed, so the Company would have toughed it through if it believed an upturn was close at hand.

On the positive side, AMAT is an industry leader and knows how to manage their business about as well as any other company; they are taking the right steps.

BTW I own no AMAT right now, own some KLAC though. Within a year, both of these stocks will be much higher assuming some kind of business recovery.
