Agreed, I did fly off a little there, but LONGonDELL really did get to me a bit. Typically I have a metered response - I guess I expected too much to expect the same from the DELL threaders. Nonetheless, we appear to be at a stalemate where I remain unconvinced about DELL's value-add and the barrier to entry they've created while the threaders hear feel that they've explained this in incredible detail to me. Bottom line is that I don't view having a repeatable distribution model as a barrier to entry. The threaders do. Yes, it is repeatable. If someone can explain to me why it's is not then perhaps I'll be convinced. I don't view pricing practices which are repeatable as a barrier to entry. The threaders do. I don't view what PC week says about DELL as significant - apparently the threaders do...(of course until I post an article that argues against DELL's position). Then these articles are worthless. I found that quite interesting. I don't view the fact that having an honest and forthright CEO as being material to a companies success. The threaders do. I began my conversation here asking what makes DELL unique and gives the company a unique market position. Given that they purchase components (PCB's) and assemble these into JIT delivery for fullfilment to the Fortune 500 companies, what is it that keeps competitors from emulating this approach. If someone can answer this in such a way as to demonstrate that the CPQ's, IBM's and HP's haven't a chance of either emulating it or bettering it then once again I'll be convinced. Up to now the response I've seen was "why haven't they done it then?; they're morons/buffoons; they can't copy DELL's model - no one can." I'm sorry, these are not, in my eyes, solid cases for DELL's business model; nor were the ones I restated above. Again, they appear to me to be repeatable. So, I agree that I'm not bullish on DELL...and perhaps I'm one of few on this thread that articulate it. I'm up for a healthy discussion about it - with inuendo put aside - an intelligent conversation. I left the room earlier today because it appeared that that wasn't going to happen. At least not with LONG... But if this thread would rather those with opinions other than yours leave, I can honor that. I does not bother me in the least. OG
