Vantive Is PeopleSoft Front-Office Vendor of Choice

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 25, 1998-- PeopleSoft, Inc. (NASDAQ:PSFT - news) and The Vantive Corporation [Nasdaq:VNTV - news] today announced a strategic partnership that extends the companies' existing partnership to meet customers' demands for an integrated front- and back-office automation solution.

With this agreement, PeopleSoft raises Vantive to preferred partner status and designates Vantive as a front-office vendor of choice for PeopleSoft customers. The resulting out-of-the-box integration between the PeopleSoft ERP applications and the Vantive Enterprise, the industry's only complete, fully-integrated front-office system, enables the seamless sharing of customer information between sales, marketing, customer service, field service, accounting, and manufacturing.

With the Vantive-PeopleSoft integration, employees across an organization will be able to access key information stored in both applications regardless of which application they use. With immediate, easy access to detailed customer, product and order information, companies are better able to respond to customer inquiries and needs. In addition, automatic information sharing between the systems generates improved communication and productivity gains throughout an organization. The combination of these benefits enables efficient, effective and profitable increases in sales and customer satisfaction. Several joint Vantive-PeopleSoft customers are already realizing the benefits of an integrated solution.

Fairchild Semiconductor has implemented an integration that shares product information between Vantive and PeopleSoft as part of the rollout of Vantive Sales and Support. The company also plans an integration to share customer information between Vantive and PeopleSoft in the near future, and is exploring additional integration opportunities as it moves forward. Vantive-PeopleSoft Integration Benefits

As the Vantive solution is rolled out, benefits to Vantive users from this integration will include:

Vantive Sales -- Sales reps will have access within Vantive Sales to information kept in
PeopleSoft on products, pricing, inventory and order status. Sales quotes created in Vantive
will automatically forward to PeopleSoft for order entry processing. Sales reps will be able
to provide customers with firm product delivery dates obtained from PeopleSoft. In
addition, sales forecasts developed in Vantive will flow to PeopleSoft, providing companies
with a more precise accounting of upcoming orders for manufacturing planning.
Vantive Support -- To provide customers with quick, accurate status recaps, call center
agents using Vantive will be able to access information instantly in PeopleSoft, such as
product pricing and availability, account status, order status and inventory availability.
Telesales reps will be able to review account balances, payments received and credit rating
information for customers.
Vantive Field Service -- Field service representatives will be able to access PeopleSoft Bill
of Materials information from Vantive to understand part relationships resulting in quicker
service calls. For service calls that require an RMA or replacement order, a representative
will be able to process the transaction within Vantive and the information will automatically
flow to PeopleSoft for shipment and billing. In addition, time and material charges collected
in Vantive will be automatically sent to PeopleSoft for billing.
Vantive Help Desk -- Help desk agents will have access to employee information shared
between PeopleSoft and Vantive HelpDesk such as skills and asset tracking to support
problem routing and asset movements.

With this solution, companies will also realize added benefits of time and cost savings when
implementing and maintaining their Vantive and PeopleSoft systems. For example, data used in both Vantive and PeopleSoft is entered only once and is automatically shared by both applications, eliminating the need to manually re-key data and reducing associated data errors. Because users will only need to access one application to retrieve necessary customer information, additional training will not be required. In addition, integration efforts will be greatly accelerated with this out-of-box solution, yet customers will be able to customize their integrations to meet their specific needs.

Out-of-the-box integration with PeopleSoft will be available by the first half of 1999.
