David, TD, Melissa, Tim, etc.

Instead of focusing on a specific deal (Cisco is big but..) it seems that Vantive just announced a significant strategy move which was picked up in the following announcement/article:

biz.yahoo.com
news.com

Assuming they are able to deliver on the ERP Quick Connect for the major ERP players, the questions for you all are:

1) Will off the shelf integrations to SAP, PeopleSoft and Oracle help reduce the ERP threat to the Front-Office space?

2) Will these integrations give Vantive a significant advantage over its traditional competitors like Siebel, Clarify, etc.

If the group's consensus is:

*Yes to both questions - Vantive price is solely based on execution, if done well, they will become the gorilla of the front office. Buy Now!

*No to the first, yes to the second - Same as above, but within a year they will be overtaken by SAP and Oracle. Hold and wait for an opportunity to sell!

*Yes to the first, no to the second - The Front office will continue as a seperate entity from ERP due to its individual complexity. Siebel, Vantive, and Clarify become analogous to SAP, Oracle, and PeopleSoft. Buy!

*No to both - Given that everyone's functionality is similar, ultimately the game goes to the vendor with the broadest solution ala Microsoft Office. Sell all front-office vendors!
