Excellent Post. Many good points. I agree that very few people have a clue as to what influences gold price. It is really complex, I suspect. Simple arguements dont hold water. You are correct, at current lease rates, it is just ridiculous. I would also look for a policy change from the federal reserve as a potential catalyst for the POG, in addition to those that you mention. The IMF has blown its wad-it didnt work-the entity probably doesnt exist within 3 years or less. Greenspan is completely overwhelmed-he would rather cuddle up with Andrea Mitchell than deal with the mess which is just only beginning. His honeymoon period is over with Wall Street and the politicians and he will not be up to the task. He is too weary, too famous, and worn down. His ego needs no more gratification. This disaster may force his resignation. Bob Rubin is eerily silent. Not a good sign. Social unrest is just around the corner, some of which will wash up or in some way impact politics here in the US. The BOC is a joke. They should explain the logic of their gold sales to their populace who finds itself much poorer the minute they step out over their border.
