Tony: Nice post. Your numbers coincide with mine.

Re: "59 Institutions hold 31.32% of the outstanding shares as of June 30,1998. Of these, 4 established new positions while 6 liquidated their holdings. Overall, Institutions decreased their holdings by <12.47>% for the period."

Also note that a few years back, institutions owned 55%. Now who is buying the stock that the institutions are selling? It is amazing how such a large group of unrelated individual investors have come to the same conclusion regarding a company that is losing money of late. But maybe they all just read this thread and have decided to buy UTEK based on the information posted here. Or maybe they represent the some 40,000 some odd Brinker subscribers who know this is the only stock he has as a "buy" now. Does anyone else with contacts to the individual investor have the stock as a buy? I don't think so. Why does the company trade at a higher valuation overall than similar sized companies in this sector? Why have similar sized companies reached 1996 trough valuations while UTEK has not? If one does not think UTEK is valued at a premium, then all the short sellers must just have it in for this company for no good reason. Can anyone tell me a company in this sector that has a higher relative short interest? I'll bet they are few if any.

Some institutions are selling maybe because, in part, they see greater value in other stocks in this sector; the individual is buying the company; the short sellers buy every so often but they mainly wait nervously.

Beats me. Market Guide doesn't say how recent their data is, but since StockSmart is quoting numbers from June 30, and today is August 26, it's at least theoretically possible for both sites to be correct.
