limtex ... Actually I wonder why the owners of the StarTrek copyright don't sue Motorola especially when you consider the name "StarTac".

I read in Forbes (a while ago) that Paramount (owner of all Star Trek rights) is investigating all legal options with regard to Motorola's use of the name StarTac.

I am sure Qualcomm is aware of this, because I personally pointed out the Forbes article to someone at Qualcomm, just in case no one there (at QCOM) knew about it.

If MOT was to acquire QCOM, there is that sticky business invoving Globalstar and Iridium. Quite the conflict there.
