1917 and 1942 - took a while (a long while) in both cases very few American losses in the first. Made the difference - the final push over the top. Enriched America, impoverished Britain which had to give up much of its assets (including gold) to repay lend/lease, and did not (unlike Europe) benefit from the Marshall Plan. So much resentment in Europe over movies (ironicallt some starring Errol Flynn) showing how America won the war single handed. That's why I'm reluctant to see 'Saving Private Ryan' although I hear it's good - D. Day with only Amercan troops??
