Re Japan...Lets not be too demanding on the issue of solving the banking problem. The simple solution - close down what's riddled with bad loans - created a major tragedy in Hokkaido last year when the Hokkaido bank closed and left also customers in good standing without access to capital. There's one big intertwined rug there - trying to yank it away is not a solution. And of course I dont know what the solution could eventually be. The average age of present government approaches Soviet dimensions. DJ
