Thanks Gambit/Adam!! It sure looks like Creative has a strategy lined up to deal with competition. The fact that SB Live is primed for upgrades (with so many I/O ports waiting for jacks) shows that this is not the end of the story. You're probably right that a gamers-only SB Live will come out soon ... shouldn't be too difficult.

Anybody can confirm what sort of quality Aureal/Diamond claims for its 16 hardware 3D streams on the Vortex2/A3D2.0/MX300? Creative does the 8 streams at 48kHz which I understand is even better than CD quality. Of course, Aureal's claims are one thing, while a real test is another.

Adam,
Hey! I saw your post on the newsgroup.I'm really interested in your 16 audio stream question could you let me know what the reply is in case it dosn't come via the newsgroup(email).

You know what Creaf would do if it was Creaf announcing the MX300..
.......COMING SOON.......it is within 3 months (Creaf obvious definition of coming soon).

This dimd release is a big deal only because of its timing! Creaf caused their own problem with this 1. Imagine sb live ships on time(3 months ago) what kinda of support would creaf have already established? Gamers will wait 2 months to upgrade sound but not 5. This would have been a non issue with proper execution of sb live. This will definitely impact sales in my opinion.

I really believe we will see a series of driver updates over the next few months. Creaf is doing a great job of transferring the feedback they receive in their newsgroup to actual product.
